Scholarships will assist students in preparing for a successful career as cybersecurity experts.
Austin — In honor of Cyber Security Awareness Month, WGGU Texas is awarding $100,000 in scholarships to students who wish to advance their careers by earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in cyber security.
Every Cybersecurity award is worth up to $5,000 and is intended to provide significant financial assistance to students who are pursuing an inexpensive approved degree. Scholarships are awarded at a rate of $1,250 for each six-month period.
Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program or a WGU teaching program in Cybersecurity will graduate with the abilities needed to excel in the area as well as a useful industry-recognized certification that is not included in the tuition. When they first enter the workforce, many graduates find themselves in a middle-level position.
Bylii Hyward, a WGU Texas student and recent recipient of the Cybersecurity scholarship, attended Community College in Portland, where he became interested in Cybersecurity and coding. “It became evident to me once I got the opportunity to learn that Cybersecurity was something I felt strongly about as a career path,” he stated.
“This scholarship has given me a new lease on life. I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to receive the balance of my school funds, and the WGU became a way for me to get my title. Everyone has been supportive, starting with financial aid for my program mentor.”
Demand for highly qualified Siber specialists will continue to rise as the threat of cyber and rising security infractions grows. The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security have named WGU a national center of academic excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). Institutions that demonstrate the ability to provide qualified workers are given the appointment.
